Security camera installation

Client: Residential property, Markham (exact address withheld for the homeowner’s privacy)

Every property has a side, a corner, or a laneway nobody thought to point a camera at until after something happens there. This two-story stone-and-brick home in Markham needed full coverage of its front entry, both side passages, and the rear yard, which meant the camera type mattered as much as the camera count.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

RATA Security & Camera installation installed six cameras around the exterior as part of a full residential security camera installation, split deliberately between two styles depending on what each spot actually needed:

  • Two low-profile dome cameras mounted flush under the eaves at each end of the front stone ledge, watching the entry walkway and driveway approach from both corners without jutting out over the address plaque and front windows
  • Four bullet-style cameras on adjustable gooseneck mounts covering the side passages and rear yard, including two stacked at a single corner so one mounting point covers both the side passage and the rear fence line
  • All cable runs in surface conduit following the mortar lines from the roofline down past each window before dropping behind the trim, the standard approach on a brick and stone exterior where there is no way to route cable inside finished masonry

The detail worth knowing

On a brick or stone house, cable cannot disappear inside the wall the way it can behind drywall, so the conduit run becomes part of how the house looks whether anyone likes it or not. The fix is not hiding it, it is making it look intentional: following the mortar lines and roofline transitions instead of cutting straight across open brick, and matching the conduit colour to the home’s existing trim rather than the brick itself. Dome cameras went where the sightline needed to stay tight against the stone, bullet cameras on adjustable gooseneck mounts went wherever the angle needed adjusting after the fact, at the corners covering open yard and fence lines. Six cameras, two mounting styles, each one picked for the spot it had to cover rather than installed on autopilot.
