Security Camera Installation in Toronto

Whether you run a retail shop on Yonge Street, manage a warehouse in Brampton, or own a home in North York, professional security camera installation in Toronto is the single most effective step you can take to protect your property. At RATA Security, we design and install complete CCTV systems across the Greater Toronto Area , from Scarborough to Etobicoke, Mississauga to Markham , with clean wiring, licensed technicians, and same-day emergency service when you need it most.

This page covers everything you need to make a confident decision: the types of systems we install, the brands we trust, what the process looks like, how much it costs, and the answers to the questions Toronto property owners ask us every week.

Types of Security Camera Systems We Install in Toronto

Not every property has the same needs. A condo lobby in downtown Toronto needs a different system than a manufacturing floor in Vaughan or a restaurant kitchen in Etobicoke. Below are the four main system types we install, and which properties they suit best.

IP Camera Systems (Most Popular)

An IP camera system transmits digital video over your existing Cat6 network infrastructure. This is the modern standard for most Toronto commercial and residential properties.

  • Resolution: 4K (8MP) to 2K (4MP), license plate and face recognition at distance
  • Storage: Local NVR (1TB to 16TB), no monthly cloud fees
  • Remote viewing: Live feed from any smartphone, anywhere in the world
  • AI features: Motion zones, line-crossing alerts, people counting (Hikvision & Dahua)
  • Best for: Offices, retail stores, restaurants, warehouses, residential homes

HD Analog (Coax) Systems: Budget-Friendly Upgrade

If your property already has coaxial cable from an older system, HD analog cameras let you upgrade image quality without rewiring. Modern HD-TVI and HD-CVI cameras deliver 1080p to 4K over your existing coax.

  • Reuses existing coax cabling, reduces installation cost by 30 to 50 percent
  • Resolution: 1080p to 4K depending on camera model
  • No network configuration required, simpler for small residential properties
  • Best for: Houses, small retail, properties with existing coax infrastructure

NVR Security System: The Brain of Your IP Setup

The Network Video Recorder (NVR) is the central hub that receives, processes, and stores footage from all IP cameras on your network. Choosing the right NVR capacity is as important as choosing the right cameras.

Property Type Recommended NVR Setup
Home (4 to 8 cameras) 8-channel NVR, 2TB HDD, 30 days retention at 1080p
Retail store (8 to 16 cameras) 16-channel NVR, 4TB HDD, 30 days at 4K
Warehouse (16 to 32 cameras)

32-channel NVR, 8TB HDD, 60 days at 1080p

Multi-site commercial Separate NVR per site + central VMS software

Specialized Cameras: PTZ, Thermal, and LPR

For large open areas, parking lots, or high-security perimeters, we deploy specialized camera types alongside standard dome and bullet cameras:

  • PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom): Motorized cameras that cover large areas. Used in warehouses, campuses, and parking structures across Mississauga and Brampton. One PTZ replaces 3 to 4 fixed cameras.
  • Thermal imaging: Detects heat signatures rather than visible light. Ideal for perimeter security at manufacturing facilities in the GTA’s industrial zones. Eliminates false alarms from trees or animals.
  • LPR (License Plate Recognition): Captures plates at entry and exit points. Used in condo parking garages, gated facilities, and commercial loading docks.
  • Fisheye / 360-degree: Single camera covers an entire room or intersection. Common in retail floors and open-plan offices.

Our 4-Step Installation Process in Toronto

Every installation follows the same structured process, whether it is a 4-camera home in Etobicoke or a 32-camera warehouse in Vaughan. This is how we eliminate blind spots and deliver a system that works reliably on day one and year three.

Step 1: Free On-Site Assessment and Blind Spot Analysis

Our technician visits your property in Toronto or the GTA, assesses the architectural layout, existing cabling, ambient lighting in each zone, and entry and exit points. We produce a camera placement plan that covers your specific vulnerabilities , not a generic floor plan we copied from another job.

  • Takes 30 to 60 minutes for most residential and small commercial properties
  • No obligation, no pressure, written quote provided same day or next day
  • We identify existing cabling that can be reused, which reduces your cost

Step 2: Clean Wiring and Hardware Mounting

We run Cat6 or coax cables through walls, attics, crawl spaces, or conduit , whichever causes the least disruption to your property. Cables are never surface-run unless the client specifically requests it or the building makes concealment impossible.

  • All holes patched and painted to match surrounding surface
  • Cable routes discussed and approved before any drilling begins
  • Condo and apartment installations use surface-mount conduit where required by building rules
  • Commercial installations use structured cabling standards (TIA-568) for clean, labelled runs

Step 3: NVR Configuration, Network Integration, and Remote Access Setup

We configure your NVR with the correct recording schedules, motion detection zones, and retention periods. Remote access is set up on your smartphone and any additional devices you designate. All remote connections are secured with encrypted credentials , we do not leave cameras on default passwords.

  • Recording schedules: 24/7 continuous, motion-triggered, or scheduled by time of day
  • Retention periods set based on your storage capacity and legal requirements (Ontario recommends 30 days minimum for commercial)
  • Push notifications configured for motion events, camera offline alerts, and storage warnings
  • Hikvision iVMS-4200 or Hik-Connect app setup for iOS and Android

Step 4: Client Training and System Handoff

Before we leave, you know how to operate every aspect of your system. We walk through live viewing, playback, clip export, and motion zone adjustments. We also provide a written system reference card with your NVR login, app credentials, and our direct support number.

  • Training takes 20 to 45 minutes, covers mobile app, desktop software, and physical NVR
  • Written system summary card left with client
  • 2-year installation warranty on all workmanship and equipment
  • Same-day emergency service available across Metro Toronto if your system goes offline

Frequently Asked Questions

A standard 4-camera residential system fully installed runs $1,200 to $1,800. An 8-camera commercial system with 4K NVR runs $2,500 to $3,500. Complex commercial projects with conduit work and large-format NVRs are quoted on-site. All prices include equipment, labour, cabling, NVR setup, and client training.

A 4-camera home system typically takes 4 to 6 hours. An 8-camera system takes 6 to 8 hours (one full day). Commercial projects with 16 or more cameras take 1 to 3 days. We work cleanly and do not leave until the system is fully tested and you are trained on it.

No. All recording happens locally on your NVR hard drive and does not require internet. An internet connection is only required if you want to view footage remotely on your phone or receive push notifications. If your internet goes down, recording continues uninterrupted on the NVR.

Footage already recorded on the NVR is safe , it is stored on a hard drive and is not lost when power goes out. We recommend adding a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to keep cameras recording during short outages. We can supply and install a UPS sized for your system.

We minimize visible holes and damage:

  • Cables run through attics, basements, or crawl spaces when possible
  • We use existing conduit or wire paths
  • Small holes are patched and painted to match
  • We discuss all cable routes with you before drilling

For condos/apartments, we can often use surface-mount options.

We provide a comprehensive warranty on our installations, covering:

1 year on
